Goodwell Microfinance Development Company I (Goodwell I) aimed to establish a risk capital channel which supports the growth and integration of MFIs into the mainstream financial industry whilst maintaining their social mission.
Goodwell I raised money in the capital markets and subsequently selected, incubated and helped growing local investment teams and local investment funds in developing countries that invest in commercial MFIs, with the goal of improving the access of un(der) served populations to affordable financial services. The objective of incubating local sub funds was to build up a diversified portfolio and provide the best possible guidance and support for the MFI’s on the ground whilst efficiently connect mainstream investors with local teams.
The investment team, infrastructure, investment process and third party service providers of the fund were focused on the dual mission of maximising social and financial value simultaneously.
