Goodwell Investments receives two Private Equity Africa Awards

We are delighted to announce that we have received top honours in two categories at the 2020 Annual Private Equity Africa Awards. Goodwell Investments has been awarded PE House of the Year (Small Cap) and, together with our West African Joint Venture Partner Alitheia Capital, Venture Capital Deal of the Year for MAX.ng.

In its 9th year, the Annual Private Equity Africa Awards highlights investors and advisors that excel above their peers.

Over the past decade, the awards have grown to become a mark of distinction in African private equity and a showcase for best-in-class strategy deal-making focusing on excellence, innovation and impact.

“Through our uMunthu fund, we have been one of the most active PE investors in Africa during 2020 and we are immensely pleased to be named as Small Cap PE House of the Year,” commented Nico Blaauw, Director of Communications at Goodwell. “We invest across a range of sectors including financial technology, e-commerce, mobility, agriculture, and energy and it’s especially great to be recognised for our investment in MAX.ng, together with Alitheia Capital.”

Goodwell’s uMunthu fund invests in local entrepreneurs and innovative companies working to build inclusive economic growth by providing access to affordable basis products and services to underserved consumers across sub-Saharan Africa. We provide risk capital and hands-on support through JV partners and local investment teams across the continent.

The 2020 awards saw 31 firms recognised for their investments and the final winners were chosen by an independent panel of leading industry professionals which included representation from CDC, EBRD, IFC, Mbuyu Capital Partners, DEG and Family office Data Alliance.
