NRB is a community owned financial institution that offers banking products to low income earners throughout areas of peri-urban and rural Ghana. The bank specialises in loans and savings for micro-entrepreneurs and small businesses, helping rural communities obtain access to financial services. With branches located throughout the Ashanti region, the rural bank also offers remittance service through Western Union and Apex Link.
In addition to growing Ghana’s domestic capital, NRB contributed approximately USD$23,000 in 2013 and nearly USD$36,000 in 2014 to community development initiatives within its operational territory. Regional education and healthcare are two sectors that received extensive funding.
As the first foreign institutional investor in a rural bank, Goodwell showed conviction in NRB by investing in the bank twice, once in 2011 and again in 2013. Since its original investment date, NRB’s active client numbers has risen by 45% and, with the help of Goodwell, the bank has consolidated its role as the best rural bank in Ghana.
